Our community is currently facing very difficult financial circumstances, and many are unable to provide for the needs of their families. PowerHouse Church desires to help these families in our own community, so we established the PowerHouse Church Food Pantry in the fall of 2010.
The response from the members of PowerHouse Church was overwhelming, and the initial food drive brought in over 10,000 pounds of food. Volunteers stepped up to help assemble shelves, organize the Pantry, and begin to distribute the food. November 24, 2010 will mark the official opening of the food pantry to the Rio Rancho/Albuquerque and surrounding communities.
The Food Pantry has been able to help several families already. The number of families to which PowerHouse is providing food will grow as other food banks in the area turn way families for lack of food supply. Last year PowerHouse fed a group of local families as well as several African refugees residing in the area.
The PowerHouse Church has placed collection barrels around the church, and church members continue to bring in donations of food. Unfortunately, it is not enough to cover the growing need of those who are having difficulty affording food. Please help us serve our community by bringing a food item with you each time you come to church. Thank you!
Our PowerHouse Church Food Pantry has already helped hundreds of families in our community. But we can’t continue to do it without you! If you’re interested in donating, you can shop, and then drop the items off at the church.
How does it work?
Food Pantry guests can come one time each month. On each visit, they will receive approximately one week’s worth of groceries, which may include meat/poultry, cereal, rice, vegetables, fruit and more. In addition, they may visit once a week for bread, which we often have in abundance. Identification and proof of address is required to receive a grocery visit.
How can I get connected?
The Food Pantry/Care Center is largely staffed by volunteers, and help is needed in all areas to make it run. We are always looking for caring individuals to serve guests, stock shelves, deliver donations and make bags. As our services and programs expand, so does our need for volunteers.
The Food Pantry is open for everyone.
An application needs to be filled out and show photo ID.
Food is available once a month per household.
