My faith journey started at a very young age while growing up in Adoagyiri, a
little farming town twenty
three miles north of
Accra, the capital city
of Ghana. The stories
of Moses, Joseph, David,
Solomon, Samuel ignited
my faith, and I was drawn
to the Ministry at an
early age. I was raised
in a Catholic church
and my desire to learn
and to be close to the
Priesthood was what peaked
my interest.
While
living in Springfield
Illinois in 1980, I became
an active member of Zion
Baptist church and that
is where I realized that
I really had a deep rooted
desire to serve a calling
in the ministry. After
I moved to Albuquerque
my longing to serve in
the ministry sort of
waned. The funny thing
is, though I did not
have the same intensity
about ministry, God’s
ministry was carried
out by serving in the
church and in the community
helping people. I served
my community in various
positions with different
organizations including
the Sandia National Lab’s
Citizen’s Advisory Board,
the New Mexico Coalition
for Literacy, the Greater
Albuquerque Chamber of
Commerce, Hispano Chamber
of Commerce, Leadership
New Mexico, Girls Scout,
and Rotary International
just to name a few.
In
1999 while going through
what I consider a life
altering and soul searching
crisis, a divorce, my
spirit led me to seriously
investigate God’s path
for my life. I had a
conference with my pastor
and shortly thereafter
I began a four year process
of examination by the
Board of Examiners of
the Church. After 2 years,
in 2002 in Phoenix Arizona,
the board recommended
that I be ordained Itinerant
Deacon. It was even more
special for me because
my mom, Lucy, was present
for the service. Two
years later in 2004,
I was ordained Itinerant
Elder of the AME church.
In August of 2006 Bishop
John Bryant, and Presiding
Elder H. Charles Farris,
charged me to explore
the planting of a new
church in Rio Rancho,
New Mexico. In September,
I started with a Bible
study group and a radio
teaching program on
KKIM AM1000, Christian
Radio for New Mexico.
PowerHouse
Fellowship Church was
officially launched on
April 8, 2007, Resurrection
Sunday.
